StadtWerkstatt Medien – Begegnungen in Dieburg Curatorial Introduction

The “StadtWerkstadtt Medien” on December 7, 2024, at Dieburg Marketplace, organised by students of the International Media Cultural Work Master’s Program at Hochschule Darmstadt, explore the intertwined concepts of self-reflection, perception, and transformation. “Encounters” are shaped by creative and interpretive approaches, guided by the diverse perspectives of international students and invite the people of Dieburg to explore these approaches. Here, media art emerges as a transformative lens, reimagining the intricate dynamics of interaction and emotion. This experiential process challenges individuals to confront feelings of displacement, loss, and uncertainty, fostering inner strength and self-reliance.

The exhibition, which includes workshops, installations, presentations and final multimedia productions, will be open at the Museum Schloss Fechenbach between 31.01.2025 and 02.02.2025. It will delve deeper into displacement’s emotional and physical complexities as both a personal and collective phenomenon. It explores the interplay of stability and flux through metaphorical elements: hanging chairs, unstable book towers, unfinished artworks, and broken clocks symbolise uncertainty, transformation, and the unresolved stories of the past and future.

Designed in an intentionally irregular and fragmented order, the exhibition space mirrors the feelings of confusion and in-betweenness often associated with displacement. Through audiovisual media, mediated narratives, and interactive installations, the people of Dieburg are invited to engage with these ideas, gaining insights into the shared human experience of navigating transitions. Ultimately, the exhibition examines how transformation and uncertainty shape our understanding of self and the fine line between belonging (places) and non-place.
