Encounters in Dieburg – StadtWerkstatt Medien 2024
Media Art Workshops for All on the Dieburg Market Square
Dieburg, 29 November 2024.

Six media art workshops will bring playful, innovative experiments to the Dieburg Market Square on Saturday, 7 December 2024, 9:30 – 13:30. They will offer unique ways for the general public to engage with media and art through active participation. The
workshops are organized by Master’s students of International Media Cultural Work (IMC) fromDieburg’s Media Campus of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (h_da). 

The project aims to explore the connections between media and society while motivating artistic approaches to creative community collaboration and imaginative encounters with students from all over the globe. Participants can engage in for example the workshop “Senses out of Sync”,which demonstrates how social media can pull us away from global realities through personalized video compilation paired with evocative soundscapes. The workshop “Echoes of the World” invites participants to experience the Five Elements – fire, earth, metal, water, and wood – through touch and sounds, co-creating a unique soundscape inspired by countries around the world. 

The remaining four workshops will also offer surprising methods and experiences to discover how media is shaping our perception of the world and vice versa.
Following the workshops, the media materials produced on the market square by participants will be assembled into a Social Sculpture, a collaborative exhibit, which will showcase shared experiences, creativity, and interactions, emphasizing encounter, inclusivity and community
engagement. 

The exhibition will run from 1 to 2 February at Dieburg Museum Schloss Fechenbach, with the vernissage taking place on 31 January at 18:30.
“Begegnungen in Dieburg – StadtWerkstatt Medien” is an annual project curated by Master’s students of International Media Cultural Work (IMC)/Media Campus Dieburg, Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (h_da), under the guidance of Prof. Sabine Breitsameter and
lecturer Klaus Schüller, in collaboration with Dieburg Museum Schloss Fechenbach.
