Outcome

“Images and texts in our digital world have the power to shape perceptions. They influence decisions and even trigger actions. But when images are glitched, they disrupt these flows, revealing the hidden mechanics of perception. As a social sculpture, Glitch Identity Receipts offers visitors to the StadtWerkstatt Medien Exhibition a new experience of identity construction in a digital environment. We use media and games to challenge public space stereotypes about identity. Through photographs and texts, we explore how glitches in cyberspace can challenge control and create openings for self-identification. Participants are invited to reconstruct identity beyond binaries and stereotypes by embracing the aesthetics of disruption.

We aim to: Glitching Identity Receipts aims to liberate identity from binary limitations and social stereotypes, reimagining it as a fluid and evolving phenomenon. Using digital tools and the concept of glitch, the game challenges traditional narratives and creates a space to rethink identity in an experimental, interactive way. It also aims to offer visitors a new freedom to define themselves.

How it works? During the workshop, AI-generated identity images will be presented to exhibition visitors on a screen. For each image on the screen, an identity text will be created before the exhibition. During the exhibition, visitors will choose the image they think best represents them. Afterwards, they will be able to print out the identity text that matches the image they have chosen as a “receipt”. These receipts encourage visitors to reflect on the slippery and flexible nature of identity in a digital world. Each receipt is a tangible reminder that identity, like destruction, is both unpredictable and forever transformative.”
